RENO, Nev. – Oscar Ramos Jassen, the prominent Mexican attorney from Tijuana who has served as international liaison for over 20 years for the SCORE International desert racing organization has been diagnosed with cancer and will begin immediate treatment in a Mexico City hospital.

“We are all in shock regarding this grievous news regarding Oscar Ramos, who has been a wonderful friend and great help to SCORE for over two decades,” commented Roger Norman, SCORE CEO/President. “Oscar has been a significant member of our SCORE family and he knows that our thoughts and prayers are with him and his family during this most difficult time.”

“Oscar is under the general care of Dr. Cesar Amescua, a prominent Mexican physician who has been a vital part of the SCORE medical team at its SCORE Baja races for several years. Dr. Amescua has helped bring together a team of Oncologists as well arrange for Oscar to begin his treatment at a prominent hospital in Mexico City.”

In Mexico City on Monday, Ramos will be admitted to and treated at the Instituto Nacional de Cancerologia, where more tests and exploratory procedures will be performed to determine the timing of surgery to remove the cancerous tumor that was identified this week in Tijuana.

“The important thing now is to get Oscar to Mexico City where further analysis and aggressive treatments can begin immediately,” Norman added. “Preliminary reports have indicated that the cancer was detected at an early stage and the prognosis is very positive at this point.”

SCORE, which produces the internationally televised five-race SCORE World Desert Championship, recently held the SCORE Baja Sur 500 race from Cabo San Lucas to Loreto (April 15-19) and is preparing for the SCORE Baja 500 to be held in Ensenada (June 4-7).

Ramos was extremely active in helping prepare the logistics and execution of the recent SCORE Baja race in the state of Baja Sur and was hospitalized several days after the race in Tijuana when the symptoms of his condition became apparent.
