PICKERINGTON, Ohio — The American Motorcyclist Association is pleased to announce that Team Honda HRC’s Cole Seely, in the 450SX class, and Yamalube Star Racing Yamaha’s Aaron Plessinger, in the 250SX class, are the 2015 AMA Supercross Rookies of the Year by virtue of their performance in Monster Energy AMA Supercross, an FIM World Championship.

“Cole and Aaron both had exceptional rookie seasons, demonstrating that they have what it takes to compete at the highest levels,” said AMA Supercross Director Kevin Crowther. “We congratulate them for their distinguishing performances in 2015. Their continued dedication and hard work will certainly take them far in the sport of AMA Supercross.”

AMA Rookie of the Year honors are awarded to the eligible rookie rider with the most points accumulated in each class.

Seely, from Laguna Beach, Calif., is third in AMA 450SX championship points through 16 of 17 rounds. Seely advanced to the 450SX class after finishing second in 250SX West points in 2014. Seely won the Houston 450SX main event this year, en route to his 450SX AMA Supercross Rookie of the Year honors. With one 450SX race to go, the season finale in Las Vegas tonight, Yoshimura Suzuki rider Blake Baggett is mathematically unable to catch Seely in points.

Plessinger, from Hamilton, Ohio, finished the season fifth in the AMA 250SX West Region point standings, earning the most season points of any AMA 250SX class rookie in either region. Plessinger finished third at the fifth round of West Region competition in Anaheim, Calif. Plessinger is a graduate of the AMSOIL Arenacross Featuring Ricky Carmichael’s Road to Supercross program, which prepares riders for the challenges of AMA Supercross through AMA Arenacross competition.

The race for 250SX AMA Supercross Rookie of the Year honors was particularly tight, with Plessinger edging out GEICO Honda rider R.J. Hampshire in the East Region by just three points, 103 to 100.
