Norra-2015-Mexican-1000-9-16-14
As plans for the biggest and most enjoyable Mexican 1000 Rally to date begin to be finalized, NORRA today clarified important navigation regulations regarding all three categories of vehicles involved with this year’s 1,300-plus mile competition.

As has been the case in all previous General Tire Mexican 1000 rallies, the Motorcycle, Vintage and Evolution/Rally Raid categories will be provided GPS files just prior to taking the green flag in Ensenada, Baja, Mexico this April. In addition, all teams will be given the traditional NORRA roadbooks at pre-race Driver’s Registration so that teams have the option of using one or both to make their way from Ensenada to the Cabo San Lucas area.

“Again this year all classes will be provided with a roadbook to help them navigate the Baja peninsula,” explained NORRA Rally Master Darren Skilton. “Although there are three separate routes for the bikes, Vintage and Evo classes, all categories will also receive GPS files unique to their route. As in years past, the roadbook will be an important part of the Mexican 1000 journey. Those who use it correctly will enhance their overall experience and might find they may finish faster!”

Adding to that “experience” for the 2015 Mexican 1000 is a new twist for Bike and Evo/Rally Raid-class competitors that will be rewarded with time bonuses via hidden waypoints and/or legal shorter routes found only within the NORRA’s official roadbook.

“The first priority for NORRA is to do all we can so our guests have a great time — but also a safe time,” added organization President Mike Pearlman. “There is nothing enjoyable about getting lost in the desert while your friends and competitors are reaching the day’s finish line and their first taco and cold cerveza. However, we have found that once people try the roadbooks it can add another level of fun and competition to the whole event.”

NORRA will be providing additional details about navigation regulations and options in the weeks leading up to this year’s 6th annual running of “The Happiest Race On Earth.”
