The Tecate SCORE Baja 1000, (B1K) is one of the greatest contests in motorsports. The course is run as a loop or point to point. This year’s race, the 47th, is a point to point peninsula run. It starts in Ensenada and travels a staggering 1,275 miles south to La Paz. Shaffer Motorsports will be putting in overtime driving the Transfer Case Express class 10 car nearly 300 miles farther than the touted 1000 miles.

In order to be competitive in such a long race, racers need to pre-run the course. Pre-running is serious preparation but it also allows a chance to take in the spectacular scenery and indulge in the incredible food found south of the border. On race day, they won’t have time to take in the sights.

The time spent pre-running is only a fraction of the investment put in by Shaffer Motorsports for the Baja 1000. It takes hours of shop time and support from Transfer Case Express, Ruffstuff Specialties, PSC Motorsports, BFGoodrich Tires, Powertank, BozTec, Cytech Communications, Instone Inc. and Shaffer’s Offroad to mount a competitive effort at the B1K. The effort also includes stateside communications and logistics by Randal Morrison when the race gets under way. Shaffer Motorsports will be primed and ready to go when they leave the line in Ensenada on Thursday, November 13.
