A busy weekend on the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series led to many successes for Brian Deegan and his line of #38 trucks. The originally scheduled events for Lake Elsinore were Round 15, the last regularly scheduled race of the season, and the Cup Races. However, due to weather cancellation at Las Vegas, Round 14 would be contested on Saturday morning of Lake Elsinore. To add to this busy weekend, Deegan would also be running three events, making his Pro 4 debut in Round 15.

For his grand entrance into Pro 4, The General drove the #38 Rockstar Energy Drink/Makita Power Tools Ford. By the end of lap one he was already running in fifth. Over the next several laps, Deegan exchanged places with Johnny Greaves and son CJ, but was never far off the pace and soon made his way back into fourth and by lap 12 to third, as he stayed clear of skirmishes going on with the leaders. Greaves, who sat second, spun out leaving the path open for Deegan. Deegan took full advantage of the opportunity and went on to an impressive second place finish in his first Pro 4 event.

In Round 15’s Pro Lite event, Deegan was looking to make up ground on points leader Sheldon Creed. He went straight to the lead, demonstrating his determination. After a full course caution, Jerrett Brooks was able to squeeze by Deegan on the restart. Although Deegan and Brooks continued to run similar lap times, Deegan didn’t have the opportunity to take over the lead again and would finish second in Pro Lite.

Deegan’s Challenging and Hectic Weekend Continued with Pro 2

As the Pro 2 points leader, Deegan was in a position to clinch his title in Round 15. Pro 2 was the final event of the evening and Deegan was running third on lap one. A few incidents and cautions caused the field to stack up early in the race and by the time racing resumed on lap nine, Deegan sat fourth. The #38 Rockstar Energy Drink/Makita Power Tools Ford easily passed Rodrigo Ampudia soon after the restart. After more cautions, Deegan moved into second, and by the final lap was determined to make his move for the lead over Carl Renezeder. A gutsy move put him door-to-door with Renezeder, but it wasn’t enough to open a pathway. The bump caused Deegan to have to drive the inside rail, allowing Rob MacCachren to move past Deegan. Deegan finished the event in third, which continued his perfect record of podium finishes in Pro 2 for the 2014 season. It was also enough to clinch the Pro 2 Unlimited Championship. This marks Deegan’s third Pro 2 Championship in four years.

Winning is in the Deegan Blood
It was an exciting day for the Deegan family as Deegan’s oldest daughter, Hailie made an incredible run in Modified Kart, taking both her first pole position and first win in her #538 Dirt Princess/4 Wheel Parts/Makita Power Tools truck.  With a zero-position inversion, Hailie got to start from the inside of row one and quickly put her positioning to good use, going straight to the lead. Positions went unchanged as Deegan started pulling away from her competitors. Although trucks battled behind her, Deegan never gave up her position and led from flag to flag to take her first National Series win. She also claimed her place in history as the first female to ever in the Modified Kart category.

Saturday Shows Up with Big Challenges
Saturday morning at Lake Elsinore featured the postponed Round 14. This race would be monumental for Deegan. It was his last chance to make up points on Pro Lite leader Sheldon Creed. It would also be his last time running Pro Lite, as he plans to retire from the class with the close of the 2014 season.

The General started out strong in his #38 Rockstar Energy Drink/Makita Power Tools Ford, putting himself in first place. Although Jerrett Brooks passed Deegan, the #38 was able to hang onto second place for the entire race, keeping strong lines. Unfortunately rival Sheldon Creed had a good race, finishing third. After points were awarded for Round 14, Deegan was a mere four points outside of first place. The General has won the Pro Lite Championship three times prior. Although he hoped to make it four in 2014, a strong second place finish still made for an incredible ending to Deegan’s Pro Lite career.

Demons Surface in Pro 2
In Round 14’s Pro 2 event Deegan and Bryce Menzies battled for first the entire event. Deegan was in second place with two laps to go when he lost the motor. Due to this mechanical failure Deegan was unable to finish the event. Thankfully, Deegan had clinched the Pro 2 Championship on Friday night and was able to celebrate an overall victory, despite the disappointing finish in Round 14.

Saturday night at Lake Elsinore featured the Cup Races. Based on points, Deegan started on the pole and led the first several laps. Mechanical demons surfaced once again and claimed the #38 motor, sidelining Deegan for the remainder of the race.

Deegan chose to run Pro 4 in the highly anticipated Lucas Oil Challenge Cup due to his motor failure in Pro 2. Run ordered was based on points, and since Deegan had only competed in one Pro 4 event, he had to start at the back of the pack. Still, he worked his way through the large pack and finished 8th.
