Spy-Full-Del-Mar-Moto-5-29-14CARLSBAD, Calif. — SPY is happy to present the third annual SPY Del Moto Derby Invitational—the only motocross event in San Diego County Fair history—on Sunday, June 8. The event will showcase amateur and professional arena style motocross racing in 250cc and 450cc classes, 65cc and 85cc for young riders, and a few specialty events involving some of the biggest names in MX at the famed track during the San Diego County Fair.

Top ranking pros and amateurs—including SPY athletes Justin Barcia, Kevin Windham, Axell Hodges and Billy Laninovich, as well as local all-star Tyler Bereman—will chase down the win at this invite-only motocross-racing event, along with this year’s unique expositions. In the Mini Truck exhibition race Justin Barcia will join Brock Heger—SPY athlete and trophy kart racer—in a four-wheel battle for bragging rights. For the traditionalists, the day will feature a Mini Bike Drag race and $300 prize purse, as well as a Best Whip contest with returning champion Tyler Bereman. Fans and spectators alike will also have the opportunity to test the SPY Happy Lens™ during an all-day Happy demo, and get up close and personal with the course and riders during the track walk and SPY autograph session with Justin Barcia.

“I’m ready to get back to the Del Moto Derby and have some fun with the local kids,” says SPY athlete Justin Barcia. “It’s pretty rad of SPY to put on such a unique MX event that draws in the local riders and their families. It’s one of my favorite events of the year for sure.”

Continuing their philanthropic approach to events, SPY is donating $20 from each race entry to two great causes—$10 to Keep A Breast Foundation and $10 to the Kurt Caselli Foundation. With the mission of eradicating breast cancer for future generations, the team from Keep A Breast will be on-site throughout the day to educate young people as well as accept donations to help their mission. The Kurt Caselli Foundation was established in 2013 in an effort to focus on safety of riders and racers in the off-road motorcycling industry. In order to increase the safety of riders, the Kurt Caselli Foundation encourages the use of safety equipment and develops safety precautions that will help minimize risk outside of the rider’s control.

“I’m so happy SPY’s bringing back the Del Moto Derby for another great year of racing in San Diego,” says Jeremy McGrath, SPY athlete, 7-time AMA Champion and Encinitas resident. “SPY is a huge part of the MX world, and is committed to making great product and creating the most unique events in town. I’m stoked to be a part of a family that knows their roots and is constantly bringing back the fun to our local community.”
