Coming into Round 3 of the SCORE World Desert Championship brings the Galindo Motorsports team back to Ensenada for the 46th Baja 500.

“We were so close at the Imperial Valley 250,” said Steven Eugenio, pilot of the #7 Galindo Motorsports Trophy Truck. “We had a commanding lead running at maybe 75%. Unfortunately we fell just two miles short on our fuel calculations due to the high winds and deep sand in the dune section which cost us the race. A costly lesson learned and a mistake that will not be repeated.”

Eugenio looks to take the lessons learned from the Imperial Valley 250 and paylay that into a solid finish at the 500.

“As disappointed as we were, there was good that came from that race,” he said. “We know we can run a pace that is as fast or faster than the best out there. We’re completely confident in our program and have no doubt that we have a legitimate chance at the podium for the 500.”

It’s a race that Eugenio has performed well at in the past, and that experience should serve the team well this year.

“We have a good win record with the Baja 500. Over the past few years we’ve won in Classes 1/2 1600, Class 12 and Class 1 at this race,” said Eugenio. “With help from my partner Steve Covey in the codog seat, my family, all my friends and of course all our sponsors and partners who help us out we’re going to make a run for the top spot and hopefully bring home the win. We’re currently 5th in Trophy Truck points and thats still within striking range, it’s not over yet!”

Eugenio also said this upcoming race will be dedicated to an important team member Galindo Motorsports lost recently.

“I said before and for the rest of the year, this race and the whole season is dedicated to my uncle Art Eugenio Sr., ‘Chico,’ who we just lost earlier this past March. He was part of the team from the beginning and was always there to help. A master mechanic and tireless supporter. His last words to me were, ‘Spank ’em for Chico!'”
