Scott-Douglas-TORC-Primm-10-3-13El Cajon, CA – After a second place finish at Crandon four weeks ago, Douglas Motorsports added two more podium performances to complete the 2013 Traxxas TORC Series presented by AMSOIL in Primm, Nevada. The team made the trek to the desert oasis not only for the series final rounds of races for the season, but to honor to the lives of Jeff and Rick Huseman by participating in the Huseman Cup. The weekend was definitely a weekend of high emotions and great competition as another short-course off-road race season came to a close.

As long with the season concluding event, Primm Off-Road Raceway hosted the preseason testing event back in March so Douglas Motorsports was well familiar with one mile layout. The time on the track in the spring proved extremely helpful as the team had a good idea what to expect from the desert short-course track.

The Friday morning practice session saw a driveline issue stop the AMSOIL Borla Exhaust BFGoodrich Tire Ford after just three laps. After inspecting the race truck, a defective component was the culprit. So not to risk another incident, Scott Douglas and his crew prepared his secondary truck for the afternoon qualifying session.

Without any previous time on the track, Douglas qualified sixth fastest, which put the white Ford F-150 on the pole for the afternoon fourteen lap feature.

The penultimate round of racing saw the AMSOIL Ford lead nearly a half of the race before a faulty ignition wire slightly slowed the pace of the race truck. Even with the slight issue, Scott Douglas stood on the podium in third place.

Overnight the team corrected the ignition issue and prepped the truck for another day of competition.

The final round of competition for the TORC PRO-4×4 season saw all three phases, team, driver, and race truck, of Douglas Motorsports come together to have a near perfect result.

After starting in the second row, based upon Friday’s race result, the AMSOIL Borla Ford looked strong coming out of the gate. Then suddenly the Hot Pit crew was put into action during the opening lap. As front of the field came through the first corner, a rock hit the window net latch, just missing Douglas’ helmet, allowing the net to fall down.

The quick work of the team putting the net back in place, kept the race truck on the lead lap. Now it was up to the spotters to keep the driver focused and get the AMSOIL backed truck back in the hunt.

The remainder of the twelve lap race saw a great driving performance by Scott Douglas as he worked his way into a podium position in the latter stages of the race. When the checkered flag came out, Douglas Motorsports finished in second place.

“This was a team effort to get back to back podium finishes this weekend,” noted Scott Douglas. “I was really proud of my guys yesterday, but today they stepped it up even more. To get behind like we did on the opening lap, but nobody panicked. The guys in the pits got me out lightning fast. My spotter Jeff Howe and crew chief Jason Schampers kept me focused. All the work yesterday and last night by everyone on the team was just awesome.”

The season was complete and now there would be only a few hours to get the race truck ready for the Huseman Cup. The eighteen lap sprint race that puts both PRO-2WD and PRO-4×4 race trucks on the track together competing for one big paycheck, honors the late Rick Huseman, a competitor in the truest sense. When someone says “Run it like Rick” you better give it 110%, because that just what the Rick Huseman did.

All sixteen trucks lined up for the LeMans style start with PRO-2WD trucks getting a 15 second head start. The race saw Scott Douglas move up to sixth place overall when with less than five laps to the finish, the torque converter overheated ending the weekend for the team. Officially the #7 Ford was credited with an eleventh place finish.

After all the races were tallied and the laps were counted, Scott Douglas finished fourth in the 2013 TORC PRO-4×4 Championship.
