GPS, Trail Map
CB-Radio-Off-Road-Camping-7-5-13The importance of a map and GPS (Global Positioning System) can’t be overstated. Both items can help you get back to civilization should you or your group get lost. A GPS can easily point you in the right direction of the nearest gas station, super market, or even hospital in the event of an emergency. Some GPS units will even show fire roads and access roads. A trail map is necessary, however, because a GPS can lose power. A map of the area can usually be found at the local ranger’s office or visitor’s center.

Cell Phone, CB Radio
Having multiple options to communicate is ideal. A cell phone can work well if you have service. If not, a CB Radio is great to have in your off-road rig to try and communicate with other campers or search for someone nearby. CBss also typically have a few weather channels to provide updates on the expected weather or potentially incoming storms.
