Sheldon Creed and the OCCR crew made their way to Miller Motorsports Park in Tooele Utah for Rounds 7&8 of the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series where “The Prodigy” would once again prove that he has what it takes to win.
Heading into Rounds 7&8 “The Prodigy” Sheldon Creed was sitting third overall in the championship points standings, right behind seasoned Pro Lite drivers Brian Deegan and Casey Currie. Creed did all he could in order to gain valuable championship points in Utah knowing that the 2013 season is at its tipping point.
Round 7 was yet again another huge test for “The Prodigy” Sheldon Creed. Mayhem ensued from green to checkered, and it was Sheldon’s job to make sure the AM Ortega Pro Lite #74 made it to the finish. Qualifying 2nd, Sheldon started in the third position after the invert and it looked as though he would start far enough to the front of the filed to avoid any kind of unwanted contact.
When the green flag dropped it didn’t take long for the Lucas Officials to call a full course caution, there were already drivers into the wall before the completion of the first lap. After gridding back up and sorting out the carnage, the green flag dropped once again and we had a race on our hands and “The Prodigy” had his game face on.
As the first few laps clicked away, Bradley Morris and Sheldon Creed led the 26 truck field while last years champ RJ Anderson and Casey Currie battled back and forth with hopes of catching Creed, who sat in the second place position. Former Pro Lite champion and Freestyle Motocross superstar Brian Deegan sat just behind the dueling Anderson and Currie as he watched and waited for the prime time to make his move towards the front of the pack. After a great deal of battling behind Sheldon Creed, Sheldon found himself in a battle for the first place position.
Pushing his truck beyond its limits, race leader Bradley Morris faltered and allowed “The Prodigy” to take over the number one position. Creed’s time spent at the front of the pack was short lived once a full course caution brought out the yellow flag. Due to series rules, in the event of a full-course caution the running order would go back to the way it was one lap prior to the yellow flag.
Round 8 kicked off right where Round 7 left off, except this time Sheldon Creed climbed the ladder to the number one qualifying position. Creed would set the fastest lap time for the Pro Lite division for the entire weekend and place “The Prodigy” on the pole for the main event.
When the green flag dropped all eyes were on Creed and the #74 Pro Lite as the young gun used every inch of his BFGoodrich Mud Terrain’s to claw his way through the 14 lap main event in unfavorable track conditions. Turning lap after lap, Sheldon Creed inched his way further and further from the rest of the field. Sheldon went narrowly untouched for the entire race despite multiple cautions and restarts due to carnage at the rear of the field.
Sheldon Creed won Round 8 wire-to-wire and put the AM Ortega Pro Lite #74 on top of the podium for the second time this weekend, making this Sheldon’s second Pro Lite victory in the 2013 Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series.
Creed went on to say, “I was really happy with my truck’s performance this weekend. My Crew chief Jimmy Weitzel has done an awesome job keeping me competitive and on the top of the box.”
Following Rounds 7&8, Sheldon now sits 2nd in the Championship Points race, within reach of current leader Brian Deegan. Sheldon Creed and the entire OCCR crew make their way back to Southern California where “The Prodigy” will battle once again when the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series returns to Glen Helen Raceway on July 27th-28th.
