SAN DIEGO—Moving in a new direction for 2013, Roger Norman’s SCORE International announced today that SoCal’s Amber Racing Services has become the official race fuel provider for the 2013 SCORE Desert Series, offering racers the top three race fuel brands in the desert—F&L, Sunoco and VP race fuels. Norman’s new SCORE continues to rapidly expand its base of sponsor partners heading into the 2013 SCORE Desert Series.

In addition to offering the top three race fuels at competitive prices to SCORE race participants, ARS, based in Long Beach, Calif., is providing $25,000 towards the total bonus point prize purse for the inaugural World Championship of Desert Racing.

Amber Racing Services is also the official race fuel provider of the other desert racing series Norman owns—the High Desert Racing Association and a sponsor of the new World Championship of Desert Racing bonus point prize purse program.

“SCORE is very pleased to enter into this agreement with Amber Racing Services which will provide the three key race fuels in F&L, Sunoco and VP,” said Norman in confirming the announcement. “We have worked with ARS before and respect their professionalism, racer relations as well as providing a level playing field with the three fuels coming through one organization. Additionally, Amber will also support our television package for the season and provide a significant contribution to the bonus purse for our World Championship of Desert Racing points program.”

Commenting on their selection as SCORE Official Fuel provider, ARS General Manager Brian Busy said, “We at Amber Racing Services are excited to have been chosen by SCORE to become their Official Fuel provider. We have been supporting SCORE races with F&L and VP Racing Fuels and will now be supplying the Sunoco to support 100% of the race fuel needs.”

“With the assistance of SCORE we are going to focus on offering the race teams a streamlined approach to race fuel purchases in Baja. SCORE has agreed to offer the fuel purchases online thru their registration website. We believe this will make the purchasing process much easier while still offering the same top notch service that the racers are used to from us stateside.”

In reference to the $25,000 bonus purse money ARS has committed, Busby remarked, “This is an exciting time for racers and having this new combined World Championship of Desert Racing between SCORE and HDRA is incredible.

Norman, 49, a Tecate SCORE Baja 1000 overall winner himself, acquired ownership of the world-renown SCORE International on Dec. 20, 2012 from Sal Fish, 73, the iconic godfather of desert racing who ran SCORE for 39 years.

As a hotel/casino owner in northern Nevada, business developer and a champion racer, Norman re-started the High Desert Racing Association, (HDRA) in 2011. HDRA was highly regarded when it was active originally in the 1980s and early 1990s.

Next week’s regular Dirt Live show at 7 p.m. on Tuesday (Feb. 12) will air live from the Oakley World headquarters in Foothill Ranch, Calif., during the announcement event for the 2012 Dirt Sports Magazine Driver of the Year awards.

Dirt Live will present its first special edition show at 7 p.m. on Wednesday (Feb. 13) when it broadcasts live the drawing for starting positions, by class, for the upcoming MasterCraft Safety Tecate SCORE San Felipe 250. The drawing will be held in the SCORE Operations complex in San Diego.

In its 40th year as the world’s foremost desert racing organization in 2013, the three-race 2013 SCORE Desert Series, with all three massive special events held in Baja California, Mexico, starts with the 27th MasterCraft Safety Tecate SCORE San Felipe 250 (March 8-10). Both starting and finishing in Ensenada, the other two events will be the 45th Tecate SCORE Baja 500 (May 31-June 2) and the 46th Tecate SCORE Baja 1000 (Nov. 14-17).

The 2013 SCORE Desert Series will also be part of the quickly-evolving World Championship of Desert Racing, which will combine points accumulated in the three SCORE Baja races along with points earned from three of the four-race 2013 HDRA Series, all held in the United States. Both the SCORE and HDRA series will crown their own individual class and overall point champions as well with a bonus purse for those racers who qualify for the World Championship of Desert Racing points bonus purse program to earn a desert racing World Champion title.

With a growing total, for the inaugural World Championship of Desert Racing bonus purse, an official total of $45,000 has been posted to date from new SCORE sponsors Amber Racing Services ($25,000), King Shocks ($10,000) and Rigid Industries ($10,000). For classes with at least five starters in each qualifying race in 2013, the World Champion titles will be decided on combined points from the three SCORE races and the three HDRA races with the bonus purse paid using the same formula based on total purse and number of starters in each class as is used currently for each SCORE race.
