Sparks, NV – Valley Off Road Racing Association (VORRA) unveiled its 2013 race series today, with a new date for the popular USA 500 and additional short course races at Prairie City outside Sacramento.

VORRA, celebrating its 38th year of racing, is one of the only off road series in the U.S. offering a mix of short course and desert races. Always looking to innovate, VORRA ran a 24 hour endurance race in 2011, introduced short course double-headers in 2012 and now is adding two more short course dates for 2013.

“We listened to our racers who said they wanted more short course racing and have added two dates – one in the spring and one in the fall,” said race series owner Wes Harbor. “We’ve also switched the USA 500 to Labor Day Weekend to accommodate teams with other commitments.”

As first announced in 2012, VORRA will require racers in all classes to wear head and neck restrain systems that meet the SFI 38.1 certified standard beginning with the first short course race in 2013.

“We certainly understand this is an added financial burden to race teams,” Harbor said, “but we – and the majority of our racers – understand the risks inherent in off road racing and the need for restraint systems in the event of a serious crash. We believe it’s only a matter of time before they become mandatory in all race series.”

Race Director George Henley, who assumed the role in 2012, announced plans for a program to get new racers – particularly UTVs – involved with VORRA and to do outreach to past racers who, for whatever reasons, have parked their cars.

Henley and his wife Janis have been part of VORRA for more than 25 years and are excited about the potential for growth in the sport. “Let’s go Racing!” Henley said.
