The last race on the Best In The Desert’s 2012 calendar is turning out to be a real challenge amongst competitors, with so many season class championships riding on it. A total of 14 car and truck class championships will be decided at the end of the day when the dust settles on this last race of the season. The Henderson “250” is also a “double points” race, so anything can happen in the final points shuffle.

A number of Trick Truck drivers still have a shot at taking the season championship crown. Coming into this race, Mark Weyhrich holds an eleven-point lead over Steve Sourapas, with Juan Carlos Lopez perching just 28 points behind Sourapas. Not far back and ready to challenge should something happen to the top three, are Steve Olliges, Adam Householder and Rick D. Johnson. So it comes down to whichever driver and team that can put together the perfect race for the win, probably goes home with the championship.

In Class 1500 for the unlimited buggies, Robby Gordon holds a commanding lead with 573 points heading into Henderson. His closest competitor is Garrick Freitas who sits in second with 518 points.

Three drivers have a shot at winning the Class 7200 championship. Only 2 points separate Alan A. Hogan and Barry Karakas, with Sean Backus just 12 points behind Karakas, and Randy Merritt threatening not far behind. Another extremely tight and exciting chase for the class championship.

Not only will this be a great race for the racers and teams, but it’s also going to be an exciting event for racing fans too. The Henderson “250” is an exceptional spectator friendly event. The Time Trials, thanks in part by the City of Henderson, will be held in El Dorado Valley and are open for public viewing. Plus, there are four designated “spectator only” areas on BLM owned land for the actual race. The BLM gave their approval for them due to the extreme attention to safety for all involved by Casey Folks and Best In The Desert in all their events. Best In The Desert personnel will man all of these “spectator only” areas and feature easy paved road access to the course with portable restroom facilities provided.

Casey Folks had this to say about this last race of the season, “There is no doubt in my mind that the Henderson “250” has become a truly epic off-road racing event. From the fun, challenging racecourse, to the exciting setting of the beautiful downtown center of Henderson, Nevada, a great adventure is in store for everyone! I would also like to take this opportunity to acknowledge Bud Pico and Charlene Ham, from the City of Henderson. Their goal is to create a party atmosphere in downtown Henderson.”

The streets will be closed off to traffic on Friday, November 30th, from 10:15 AM until 6:00 PM for contingency and technical inspection. Spectators and race fans can soak up the spectacle of the parading race vehicles along with their drivers and crews. They can also check out all the awesome products on display as they weave their way down the street lined with block-after-block of race related manufacturers and street vendors. There will be nonstop action all day long and into the evening in downtown Henderson, fun for the entire family!

Looking ahead to the 2013 season.
At the recent SEMA show in Las Vegas, NV, Casey Folks made an announcement that the 2013 season could be the biggest yet for Best In The Desert. He said, “With another popular desert series running all their races exclusively in Mexico next year, if off-road racers want to race in the wide open deserts of the U.S., where we already have our permits and schedule in place – we are the place to race in 2013.”
