Monument, CO – FunTreks Guidebooks, Inc. has just published a new edition of its Guide to Arizona Backroads & 4-Wheel-Drive Trails. The first edition, published in 2001, was “long overdue for an update,” says author and company founder, Charles Wells.

“Everything about this second edition is new,” says Wells, a 20-year four-wheeling veteran and author of eleven 4-wheel-drive guidebooks. “I took a team of three drivers to Arizona last fall and, in 48 days, we drove 109 trails. We needed to replace some trails that have closed, like Martinez Canyon, Reno Pass, Lockett Meadow, Butterfield Stage Route and the recently burned Sunflower Mine. We also wanted to add some new trails we missed in the first edition.”

The new book has been expanded from 75 to 100 trails, with 43 new routes. Trails were added all across Arizona including many in stunningly beautiful Sedona. Local expert, Nena Barlow, of Barlow Jeep Rentals, was our personal guide.

Trails were added north of the Grand Canyon around Jacob Lake, east and north of Phoenix, including Rolls OHV Area, Bloody Basin Road, Pyeatt Draw and Terminator. Drivers looking for incredible scenery and Native American history will be pleased to learn how to take backroad tours of Canyon De Chelly and Monument Valley. (These tours require a fee, which the book explains in detail.) A two-day overland adventure of historic El Camino Del Diablo, a.k.a. “Highway of the Devil” is also included in the book.

The new edition is full color throughout with a new format that is easier to use. Every trail has a separate mileage log immediately adjacent to a custom map featuring a relief background. Each trail is designed on two pages, which contain GPS coordinates, reverse mileages and ranger district phone numbers. You no longer need to flip to the back of the book for GPS waypoints. You’ll enjoy more than 500 high-gloss photos and 110 maps. A GPS data card featuring tracklogs and waypoints for every trail is also available for purchase on the FunTreks Website.

The book has a heavy-duty cover that conceals and protects a durable wire spiral binding. During use, the book lays perfectly flat. This binding has been used previously on new editions of FunTreks Colorado and Moab books and is very popular.
