During the last visit that the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series (LOORRS) made to Speedworld Off Road Park, Rob MacCachren led the Pro2 Unlimited field flag to flag, leaving the competition in the dust.  In this weekend’s return to Surprise, Arizona for Rounds 5 and 6 of LOORRS racing, Rob Mac had to fight a lot harder to put ROCKSTAR Energy Drink and Makita Power Tools on the top of the podium.  MacCachren qualified first for Round 5, but a two row inversion meant that he wouldn’t be leading flag to flag this time around.

Rob Mac fans wondered if the track conditions would be conducive to passing or if the No. 21 ROCKSTAR Energy Drink / Makita Power Tools / BFGoodrich Tires truck would be stuck in the middle of the pack in a dull race.  Instead the faithful fans were treated to what many are calling the best race of the year; not only in LOORRS premier Pro2 Unlimited class but in all of short course racing.  MacCachren was engaged in an all-out war with Carl Renezeder, Jeremy McGrath, Greg Adler, and Robert Naughton all battling for the lead.  Rob’s position on the track varied from fifth to second with passing at every corner, and at the mandatory caution he was sitting in third place on the track.  The pace was so frenzied at one point that McGrath actually landed on Renezeder’s roof!  While everyone made a valiant effor t there can be only one winner, and on this day it was Rob MacCachren.  MacCachren took the lead with four laps remaining and never looked back.  He also set the fast lap on Saturday as well, hitting speeds over 70 mph when the BFGoodrich tires put down all 800 horsepower from the Patton Race Engines.

The No. 21 ROCKSTAR Energy Drink / Makita Power Tools / BFGoodrich Tires truck was damaged on its way to victory, and Jim Blackmore and his crew worked long into the night to give Rob the best possible truck for Sunday’s race.  In the end they ran out of time to straighten all of the tubing hiding behind the fresh Boatec fiberglass.  Sunday’s race brought more of the passing that made Saturday’s race so exciting, with Rob as far down as sixth place at one point of the race yet refusing to give up.  The Fox Shox were perfectly dialed in to handle Speedworld’s infamous moguls, allowing MacCachren to carry speed through the hairpin turn at their terminus. By the last lap he had worked his way up to second for his third podium finish in as many races, finishing just one second behind the winner.  After this weekend, MacCachren has earned two first place wins and two second place finishes in six rounds of LOORRS racing, putting him unofficially second in season points.

The next LOORRS race weekend for Rob MacCachren will be at Miller Motorsports Park in Utah on June 23rd and 24th.  Don’t expect Rob to be sitting around basking in the glory of this weekend’s victory in the meantime.  This weekend Rob heads to Red Bud, Michigan to pilot the No. 21 MOPAR RAM in the TRAXXAS TORC series.

From Michigan MacCachren heads straight to Baja to pre-run for the SCORE International Baja 500 on June 1-3, where he starts fourth off the line in the No. 20 ROCKSTAR Energy Drink / MasterCraft Racing Trophy Truck.  His victories at the Laughlin Desert Challenge and San Felipe 250 earlier this season put him first in season points with only the Baja 500 and Baja 1000 remaining.  In August the Nevada native will join Steve Sourapas at Best In The Desert’s Vegas To Reno race before competing at the LOORRS short course event in Reno at the all new Wild West Motorsports Park the following weekend.  For all the latest Rob MacCachren news head to his Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/21RobMac.
