LOS ANGELES—Continuing to lead by example with safety guidelines, technology developments and industry-changing innovation, SCORE International, producers of the world’s foremost desert racing series, has announced that it will introduce the WorldTrack device for motorcycle and ATV classes in the extremely popular SCORE Baja races.

In association with Southern California-based International Racing Consultants, SCORE’s Sal Fish confirmed that this internationally-approved tracking, safety and emergency device will be offered as an option for the upcoming 44th Tecate SCORE Baja 500 in June and will then become mandatory for the lighter-weight SCORE racing classes at the season-ending 45th Tecate SCORE Baja 1000 in November.

While all vehicles, cars, trucks, motorcycles and ATVs have had required IRC recording devices for several years to monitor the routes taken in the desert by each vehicle, the modified tracking device for motorcycles and ATVs has been in development. After numerous successful tests through FIM international rally events in Europe, South America and Africa, the WorldTrack device, built especially for the smaller vehicles like motorcycles and ATVs, is ready to become standard equipment in the sport of desert racing.

“SCORE has always been on the cutting edge of technology, innovation and safety and we look forward to adding the IRC WorldTrack device to our required components for all motorcycle and ATV entries in our SCORE Baja races,” commented Sal Fish, SCORE CEO/President. “Working with Steve Myers and his IRC has been a tremendous benefit for SCORE desert racing and we know that this new technology will help us enhance our safety and tracking ability for motorcycles and ATVs at SCORE events.  Steve and his professional staff have done a remarkable job in developing these products that truly assist our races in the vital areas of safety, tracking and data management tools.”

IRC will be offering the new IRC WorldTrack device to the first 50 motorcycle and ATV entries as an option for their vehicles for the upcoming 44th Annual Tecate SCORE Baja 500, to be held in Ensenada, Mexico, June 1-3.

With the drawing of starting positions, by class, will be held Saturday, April 21 at the SCORE headquarters in Los Angeles, the WorldTrack device is scheduled to become mandatory for the SCORE motorcycle and ATV classes starting with November’s legendary Tecate SCORE Baja 1000.

While the IRC Iritrack tracking device has been used by SCORE for several years for all of the SCORE car and truck classes, this will be the debut of the new, more-compact and lighter weight IRC World Track device for SCORE motorcycles and ATVs.

On the technical side, the IRC WorldTrack is a tracking system that was designed for SCORE Baja racing and general tracking of any moving vehicle, Totally autonomous (internal battery) – 5 days of utilization without recharge, can be connected to external power. Embedded GPS and Iridium antennas, the device has worldwide coverage based on the Iridium constellation. It has two buttons for manual alarm and alert. Its size is small to fit better on motorcycles and ATVs with very quick and easy installation.

A vehicle position is recorded at whatever interval is required for the particular race. Inside the instrument is a GPS module, a motion detector, an Iridium Satellite SBD Modem and a microcomputer.

“To say we are ecstatic about the development of the IRC WorldTrack for motorcycles and ATVs would definitely be an understatement,” said Steve Myers, President/CEO of International Racing Consultants who himself is a SCORE class champion and a second generation desert racer. “The WorldTrack device has been tested on motorcycles and ATVs on three continents through FIM rally races and we are confident it is ready for the ultimate challenge that SCORE Baja races provide. We have designed, developed and tested an extremely viable product and can’t wait to put it in action at the SCORE Baja 500.”
