Rally racers competing at X Games 17 got their first taste of the large dirt jump on the rally course just across Staples Center and a few feet off Figueroa in downtown Los Angeles. Since the two different rally events over the weekend (Rally Car today, Rally Cross tomorrow) will shut down a few of the streets around Staples Center and LA Live, this was the first chance many of the racers had the chance to test the ramp.

Last night after 9 p.m., rally teams made finals preps and drivers hopped in their cars. They took a quick turn and accelerated quickly into the jump. No one crashed or had trouble clearing the jump, but a few drivers did come up a little short and caused some anxious moments.

Rally Car practice just wrapped up, with today’s final taking place from 1 to 3 p.m. Rally Car will pit two racers against each other in competition, with the fastest driver moving on. Tomorrow’s RallyCross race will be a little more chaotic, with four drivers on the course at the same time. It should be interesting.
