Built by the staff and students of the Fab School and featured
in numerous DIRTsports articles, the EMPI-sponsored
"Elf" (the German word for 11) is now the focal point of a
national fund-raising campaign for Cure Autism Now (CAN).
Perhaps the nicest Class 11 car ever built, the DIRTsports/EMPI
Elf effort will be taking donations and pledges up until the
drop of the green flag starting the Tecate SCORE Baja 1000
on November 16, 2006. With the completion of every mile, this
underdog car will be raising money for kids that are underdogs
too. Individuals
and corporations can donate a set amount or pledge money per
mile for all 1,080 miles of this year's Baja 1000. Participating
donors can then watch the progress of the car down the peninsula
via GPS tracking. BFGoodrich was the first to sign on as a
project donor, pledging $1.00 per mile for CAN. Many more
contributors are expected to join the effort thanks to an
extensive publicity campaign from CAN, DIRTsports and
Off-Road.com. Of course, this makes it imperative that the
DIRTsports racing team reaches this year's finish line
in La Paz to earn as much money as possible. Click
