The Ranger XP 900 gets a 13 percent increase in power for 2015.

If you’re a in the market for a utility side-by-side with gusto, then Polaris’ new Ranger XP 900 might be just the kick in the pants you’ve been waiting for.

Polaris has added the kick to the 2015 Ranger XP 900 in the form of a 13 percent power increase over the 2014 model. The added power complements a laundry list of what Polaris claims are class-leading features, such as payload, towing, ground clearance, suspension travel and torque.

According to Craig Scanlon, General Manager for Polaris Side-by-Side vehicles, the Ranger XP 900 is one of the most sought after vehicles in the Polaris side-by-side family due to its wide range of capabilities that benefit recreational riders, hunters and farmers.

“Adding more power to the 2015 Ranger XP 900 increases the vehicle’s versatility so it cannot only play harder but work harder,” Scanlon said.

The original Ranger XP 900, which hit the market in 2013, bristled with Polaris innovations such as a new ProStar 900, DOHC, fuel-injected engine, a newly restyled cockpit, more suspension, new flip-up seat storage, an industry-exclusive Pro-Fit cab system and a larger gas tank. Polaris also gave the Ranger XP 900 an all-new chassis with a repositioned engine to make for easier serviceability and a quieter ride. For 2015, Polaris engineered the Ranger XP 900 to be even brawnier than before.

To achieve their goal, Polaris engineers pumped up the Ranger’s purpose-built ProStar 900 engine to produce a claimed 68 horsepower. Careful study of its range of higher-powered ProStar engines, which are designed for its RZR models, helped them to come up with the suitable horsepower-adding enhancements for the Ranger XP engine without hurting its low-rpm torque output.

The engine changes amount to a substantial power increase, but these aren’t the only changes Polaris made to the Ranger XP 900 for 2015. New intake openings, located on the pillars behind the driver and passenger, allow for improved airflow into the engine and clutch air intake systems as well. Edgier headrests, along with new graphics packages and colors, also make the Ranger XP 900 stand out more than ever.

The Ranger Crew 900 features updates in 2015 that include updates to air-intake openings to improve airflow to the motor - changes also found on the two-seat model as well.

Polaris has also made changes to its Ranger Crew 900, incorporating the improved air intake openings, edgier headrests and new graphics packages and colors, as part of its early launch for Model Year 2015. The Ranger Crew still features the 60-horsepower version of the ProStar 900 engine, but Polaris claims that it still boasts the highest towing and payload in its class, along with monstrous storage space, comfortable ergonomics and state-of-the-art accessory integration with Polaris’ industry-exclusive Pro-Fit cab system.

The Ranger XP 900 and Ranger Crew 900 will be available in Sage Green and Solar Red, with the Ranger XP 900 also available in Polaris Pursuit Camo. The Ranger XP 900 EPS will be available in a litany of colors, including Sage Green, Solar Red, Sunset Red, Super Steel Gray, White Lightning, Black Pearl and Hunter Edition. The Ranger Crew 900 EPS will be available in Sunset Red, Super Steel Gray, White Lightning and Polaris Pursuit Camo. All models are expected to be in Polaris dealerships in June 2014.
