For 2016, Can-Am made a number of changes to its side-by-side lineup, but the headline grabber most definitely is its new Maverick 1000R Turbo engine. This new engine will be featured on the Maverick 1000R Turbo and Maverick X rs 1000R Turbo models (both of which are available in a four-seater MAX model).

Can-Am will also offer unique and specialty vehicle packages in 2016, including the Mossy Oak Hunting Edition Commander and the narrower Maverick xc DPS 1000R. Along with plenty of BNGs (bold new graphics), Can-Am also improved maintenance break-in procedures across the side-by-side vehicle lineup as well. Read on for more on the 2016 Can-Am side-by-side lineup.

Maverick 1000R TURBO
Highlighting the 2016 lineup, Can-Am unveiled an exciting new model: the 2016 Maverick 1000R TURBO. Also available in a four-seater MAX platform, Can-Am hails the 1000R Turbo as the most affordable turbocharged side-by-side in the industry. The new model is based on the X ds platform, and it is powered by a 131-hp Rotax 1000R turbocharged engine. Can-Am also added premium suspension to the new model, as it will feature front and rear FOX 2.5 PODIUM RC2 shock that feature single-speed compression and adjustments for preload. The 1000R Turbo package will feature 14-inch black cast-aluminum wheels fitted with 28-inch Maxxis Bighorn 2.0 tires.

Maverick X rs 1000R TURBO
For 2016, Can-Am will also offer an even more aggressive version of its new turbo-charged model in the X rs (or “Race Special”). Can-Am says it developed this model using research and development from its racing efforts. Also available in both a two-seater version and the four-person MAX, the X rs 1000R Turbo features a longer wheelbase and rear TTA suspension that provides 16 inches of suspension travel. Also includes on the X rs TURBO is a four-point harness system, a Yoshimura exhaust for added performance and reduced back pressure, a rear bumper, and Fox suspension calibrated specifically for tackling fast-paced whoops. The X rs 1000R Turbo comes in a unique color of Carbon Black and Can-Am Red.

Maverick DPS 1000R, MAX DPS 1000R
For 2016, Can-Am updated the Maverick DPS 1000R and MAX DPS 1000R with its Dynamic Power Steering (DPS) package. The Maverick 1000R DPS includes cast-aluminum wheels, Visco-Lok QE, Tri-Mode DPS and is available in two color options that include Viper Red or the new Light Grey and Can-Am Red option.

Maverick xc DPS 1000R
For 2016, Can-Am will offer its all-new Maverick xc DPS 1000R, which is designed as an affordable option for precision performance in a 60-inch width for narrower trails. Can-Am notes that the Maverick xc 1000R offers 12 inches of suspension travel.

Commander Mossy Oak Hunting Edition
Hunters will be excited at the addition of the all-new Commander Mossy Oak Hunting Edition. Created from the marketing partnership between BRP and Mossy Oak, the Mossy Oak Hunting Edition includes several of the standard XT features - such as bed rails, mudguards, bumper, wheels, tires and WARN winch - but it also gets unique items such as new water-dipped Mossy Oak Break-Up Country Camo, gun scabbards, a front bumper, aluminum skid plate, roof and half windshield.

Can-Am also made some major improvements to the maintenance procedure for each vehicle in 2016. First off, it replaced the 200-mile break-in inspection with a new 1000-mile inspection, which Can-Am says will help reduce ownership costs. Also new for 2016, the Commander MAX line of side-by-sides will come standard with a CVT transmission with Electronic Drive Belt Protection. The integrated Electronic Drive Belt Protection offers belt-spotting protection for the driver when he/she is operating in high gear but should be in low gear, where the vehicle will not move and a “LOW GEAR” message will appear on the gauge. Can-Am will also offer new color schemes for the 2016 side-by-side vehicle lineup, all of which are shown below.
