BAJA 1000 FUD News

Oct. 01, 2005 By Fudpucker Racing

ANGEL GARCIA, ARTURO SALAS, VIC BRUCKMANN AND ARNOLDO RAMIREZ JUMPED INTO THE ATV DEMOLIOTION DERBY LEAD BEFORE THE FIRST CHECK POINT AND WON BY A LAND SLIDE. THEIR RACE WAS SO COOL ALL THEY DID TO THE ATV WAS CHANGE ONE AIR FILTER.

THEIR VICTORY CLINCHED THE 1996 SCORE ATV CHAMPIONSHIP FOR ANGEL GARCIA, HIS FIRST AFTER ELEVEN YEARS OF TRYING. OUT OF ALL THE ATVS ENTER ONLY TWO HAD NO PROBLEMS. ONE FINISHED FIRST AND THE OTHER LAST.

IN BETWEEN THE RACE TRACK WAS LITTERED WITH THE CARNAGE OF BROKEN PARTS. THE FIRST ONE OUT WAS LIGHTNING LANCE SCHOONMAKER, THE CLUTCH BASKET EXPLODED 4 MILES INTO THE EVENT. THE ADVENTURES OF TEAM DUNLAVEY ARE ENOUGH TO MAKE YOU EITHER LAUGH OR CRY. THEY LOST THE BAJA 500 BY ONE MINUTE, BUT A WIN HERE WOULD MAKE THEM CHAMPIONS. THEY NEVER CAME CLOSE. THE MOTOR SEIZED TWICE IN THE FIRST 65 MILES. ERIC DUNLAVEY WAS RIDIING AT THE TIME AND FLAGGED DOWN A LOCAL AND ASKED FOR A TOW. THE NEXT THING HE KNEW HE WAS ON THE END OF ROPE BEING PULLED AS FAST AS THE GUY COULD DRIVE. TWICE HE WAS FLUNG OFF THE ATV INTO FENCES AND ONCE THEY TRIED TO HAVE A HEAD-ON WITH A POWERLINE POLE. AFTER THE TOW HE SAID THE RACE WAS A PIECE OF CAKE. THEY CHANGED THE TOP END AND INSPITE OF BEING HOURS BEHIND STARTED MAKING UP TIME. AS A MATTER OF FACT THEY WERE IN SECOND PLACE 8 MILES FROM THE FINISH WHEN THE SWING ARM BROKE IN TWO.

MEANWHILE GREG ROW RUNS OUT OF GAS IN THE SAME PLACE. HE TELLS THEM THAT HE HAS A SWING ARM AT THE FINISH LINE THEY CAN USE IF THEY GIVE HIM GAS. WHILE ALL THIS WAS GOING ON HERE COMES RUBEN MARTIN G. AND GERARDO ROJAS Z., THEIR PROBLEMS FINALLY SOLVED, CRUISED TO THE FINISH, SECOND ATV.
TEAM ROW FINISHED 3rd AND FINALLY TEAM DUNLAVEY, 4th. MIKE PENLAND WAS THE LAST ATV OFF THE LINE. RIDING A WOLVERINE HE PUTTED ALL THE WAY TO SAN FELIPE BEFORE LETTING HIS BROTHER RIDE A LITTLE. AFTER A SHORT BREAK HE WAS BACK ON AND CAUSALLY CRUISE TO THE FINISH, LAST BUT FIRST OPEN ATV. CONGRATULATIONS!
