XPLORER 400
Power, cargo-carrying capacity, and a great ride are all trademarks of the Xplorer 400, a versatile Polaris ATV with the Concentric Drive System and an impressive 9 inches of rear suspension travel. The Xplorer 400 provides a full 9.0 inches of rear wheel travel, and the MacPherson strut independent front suspension with 6.7 inches of travel. Its turning radius is just 65 inches. The Xplorer 400 is powered by a Polaris 400 2-stroke, liquid-cooled, oil-injected engine. Its power is managed by the dual-sensing, automatic PVT (Polaris Variable Transmission), which responds to both engine RPM and vehicle torque load. The Concentric Drive System (CDS) enhances the efficient use of Xplorer 400 power as it aligns the swing arm’s pivot point with the center of the drive sprocket. The benefit is that the rear suspension is not affected by engine torque, so more power is put to the ground, where the Xplorer 400 puts it to good use for heavy work, trail riding, and during hunting. The CDS also results in a consistent chain tension at all times, reducing chain wear and decreasing the need for chain adjustment or maintenance. When additional traction is required, a rider simply uses the on/off thumb switch to activate the intelligent On-Demand true 4-wheel drive. The Polaris 4-wheel drive system senses when the rear torque. Consistent and reliable braking is supplied by the single-lever hydraulic disc brakes and hydraulic rear axle-mounted foot brake. An electronic speedometer with a digital hour meter and odometer/trip meter with readouts in miles and kilometers is standard, as are full floorboards with integrated footpegs and front and rear cargo racks-all made of a tough composite material. The Xplorer 400 also has a tow hitch (towing capacity is 850 pounds); a handlebar-mounted quartz halogen headlight, two grille-mounted headlights, and a brake light; a rear DC outlet for accessory items; and a 4-gallon fuel tank. |
