Fiolka is the Associate Producer for this soon to be legendary major motion picture, Dust to Glory. We tagged along with the Dust to Glory film production crew, moving throughout the hottest parties along Park City's main street with Director-Dana Brown. The first stop was at the Technicolor invitation only party at the Easy Street Bistro where the whose who of Hollywood film makers mixed with the Park City crowd. Action sports filmaking legend, Bruce Brown was the life of the party as Utah's premier ski town was invaded by the Hollywood crowd. Bruce told us as we sat around table, " I hate skiiers and now I hate filmmakers," referring to the crowds stuffed in this Park City bistro.

Olympic Champion, Picabo Street is one of the many well-known celebrities here on Main Street at Park City, Utah. Filmed by the Outdoor Life Network she met with fans and shot tape in preparation of upcoming OLN segments.

A short time later, we paraded off to the elite Microsoft Party at the elegant 350 Main Street Restaurant. Bumping elbows with the leaders in the industry, and having the opportunity to view Dana Brown's last film, Step into Liquid, in the Microsoft High Definition Windows Media Format 9, was outrageous. Microsoft arranged a private back room showing of several different projects they are involved in to demonstrate the crisp clear technology available using Microsoft's High Definition Windows Media Format 9. Viewing the clip from Dana Brown's "Step into Liquid" on the latest in Microsoft technology was outstanding. The clarity of the film played on the huge wall screen shows the devotion Microsoft has providing the latest in technology.

January 20, 2004, Park City, UT – The annual Sundance Film Festival is the backdrop for tonight's premier screening for the trailer of the highly-anticipated Dana Brown feature film “Dust to Glory.” Set to be unvieled at the X-Dance Action Sports Film Festival 2004, the four-year-old festival that runs concurrently with Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah. The high-impact trailer will debut during the tonight's Awards Ceremony and Closing Night party at Harry O’s on Tuesday January 20, 2004.

Taking audiences into the granddaddy of all off road races the legendary Baja 1000, “Dust To Glory” recently wrapped principal photography in November 2003 and is slated to be completed early 2004.

“The most famous race that no one has ever seen,” the Baja 1000 is the longest continuous point-to-point race in the world and boasts between 300-400 competitors each taking off at 30 second intervals battling the desert aboard their off-road vehicle of choice, ranging from motorcycles to Buggies to $750,000 Trophy Trucks, as it pits man against man, man against the machine and both against nature.

“Dust To Glory” follows on the heels of Brown’s successful directorial debut with the Artisan Entertainment theatrical release of “Step Into Liquid,” which has been hailed as the “best surfing documentary ever made” by many including Peter Travers of Rolling Stone.

Brown’s vast experience includes collaborating with his father, famed director Bruce Brown, who is set to receive the X-Dance Special Achievement Award 2004. Best known for directing the 1966 classic surfing documentary “Endless Summer,” Bruce Brown serves as Creative Consultant on “Dust To Glory”.

Bruce Brown also cemented his position in filmmaking history as the director of the Academy award-nominated “On Any Sunday.” In addition to new footage from a range of competitors from the 2003 Baja 1000 including Johnny Campbell, Robby Gordon, the McMillin family, Jimmy Vasser and a host of other drivers, “Dust to Glory” also features rare historical Bruce Brown footage from the inaugural Baja 1000 starring Steve McQueen and James Garner as well as clips depicting the various racing legends, characters, myths and folklore that are associated with the race.

“We are thrilled to screen the trailer for Dust To Glory during this year’s X-Dance,” said X-Dance Film Festival director Brian Wimmer. “It is films like this one that make our festival such a success. This year is particularly special as we are going to celebrate the accomplishments of both Dana Brown and his father Bruce Brown who will receive a Special Achievement Award for the vast amount of work that he has done throughout his impressive career. The excitement at X-Dance is that in one night we will pay tribute to the best of the past and the future in action sports filmmaking.”

“X-Dance is the perfect venue to premiere the trailer for Dust To Glory, said Dana Brown who hopes this film will do what his past projects have done for surfing and then some. “I have long admired the festival, which has made great strides towards bringing overdue awareness of quality action sports films into the realm of mainstream recognition. In addition to the hard core racing enthusiasts, there are more than 36 million Americans who use off road vehicles as a form of recreation and the numbers only multiply when you take into consideration the millions of people from other countries. There is an immeasurable audience inherent with this type of film, for whatever their individual reasons may be, as it is part of the greater race…the human race.”

Re-teaming with Dana Brown on Dust to Glory are the producers of “Step Into Liquid” Scott Waugh and C. Rich Wilson. Waugh serves as producer on “Dust To Glory” along with motorcycle racing phenomenon-turned producer Mike “Mouse” McCoy. C. Rich Wilson (“Step Into Liquid”) serves as Executive Produce, while long-time Baja competitor and author of the forthcoming race history book "1000 Miles to Glory" Marty Fiolka serves as Associate Producer. The “Dust To Glory” production team also partnered with Sal Fish, CEO of SCORE International, the sanctioning body of the Baja 1000, who helped to coordinate the shoot and provide unlimited access to the event.

The Director of Photography is Kevin Ward (“The Perfect Moment”), who is also a professional racer (winner of 2001 Baja 1000 and the 1996 La Carrrera Pan Am) lending yet another unique perspective to the project. The extensive combination of filmmaking and racing experience makes this team possibly the most qualified in the industry to capture on film what is among the most dangerous, yet visually stunning races in the world.

“Audiences will have a huge emotional attachment to this project, said McCoy who also is one of the featured racers in the film. “The speed, danger and adventure is all real with the characters in the film actually risking their lives unlike today’s Hollywood blockbusters that utilize green screens and computer generated imagery and effects to simulate danger. In addition to the action, “Dust To Glory” captures the beauty, mystery and solitude of the Baja landscape that has been rarely been filmed before. “Dust to Glory” is the type of rare film that will live on forever.”
