BEVERAGE CONTAINMENT SYSTEM: Contain Your Drink, Not Yourself
BEVERAGE CONTAINMENT SYSTEM: It's been through the rough and tumble backroads of Baja and through some of the nastier trails of New Mexico, Nevada and California. But there is one thing for sure, the BCS F2 and F3 never dumped a drop overboard, even when the vehicle was on the verge of insanity.
COMFORTABLY FUNCTIONAL: Equipped with a Citizen Band 2-way radio, an FM Band 2-way radio and a power invertor, the cokpit of the Cherokee can become quite cramped. Add food and drinks to the mix, and our operation generally leans toward peril when we engage the rough. With the addition of the Beverage Containment System (BCS) F3 and F2, our favorite beverages are in complete control when we're out of control. Even if we were to roll the vehicle, we're guessing the BCS have enough functionality engineered into it that your favorite beverage would survive without a spill.

EVERYTHING BUT A BOTTLE OPENER: Being one who truly put the BCS to the test, it was easy to see there was one item missing from its list of features. So, I fashioned a bottle opener to each unit, making the package completely self-sufficient. Above, the BCS F3 is mounted in the Ford F-350 Super Duty as it traverses the depths of the Northeastern Baja Peninsula. Taking a break from navigating the notorious Matomi Wash, the cigarette lighter-mounted BCS F3 is held its own in Baja.

CANS AND BOTTLES: The sleek and slim F3 (left) includes a coozy, which fits both 12-ounce cans and bottles. On the other hand, the F2 is a bit larger and able to fit larger cups and other drink containers. Mounting one of my favorite 12-ounce beverages in the F2, I use my favorite Ford coozy, which makes for a snug fit.
INSTALLATION EASE: Installing the BCS is only a matter of drilling two holes and securing the mounting piece with two stainless steel screws. Seen at the right, you'll notice the rubber piece just below the two screws. This rubber piece keeps the removable BCS container in place during extreme conditions, yet makes it extremely easy to remove.

In my personal opinion, the Jeep XJ Cherokee may well be the greatest all-around vehicle in the world, but even I'll admit it is severely lacking in the convenience department. Like other Jeep models, the Cherokee isn't equipped with the convenience of a cup holder.

As far as I'm concerned, resting that scolding cup of coffee in your lap is absolute suicide. Rush hour traffic and romping around on the trail with hot java up against the family jewels is like walking the high wire during a dizzy spell.

And stashing your favorite frosty-cold beverage between your legs is not what I call pleasure either. The cruel sensation of frostbite in the middle of summer immediately comes to mind. On the practical side, balancing a drink in you lap presents safety issues when driving and can quickly warm an ice-cold drink above the optimal drinking temperature.

Sure, there are a number of alternatives on the market. There are those flimzy plastic contraptions that clip to your window, but with as cheap as those are, I wouldn't risk a second degree burn and major traffic accident on it. And as for other alternatives on the shelf, the ergonomics generally suck, leaving little room for you to comfortably function in the front seat of your Cherokee.

Add to all of that the off-road factor, and a spilled drink is eminent, unless you've got the Beverage Containment System (BCS). It's fashionable, functional, and impressive enough in its performance to marvel over. Bottom line: It gets the job done.

For the money, I wouldn't be the first to run out to buy the first one off the shelf, but I'd probably be in line now that I've had a chance to use one. Let's put it this way: It does a better job of holding onto your beverage than you possibly could.

I don't know that it's one of those thing that you absolutely need, but it is one of those things that ain't bad to have.

     Which BCS is Which

F4 - This baby isn't just about function. It's got image to go with it. The F4 body is all aluminum. Its components are CNC machined from 6061-T6 with all stainless steel bearings and a patented gyro containment system. Each model, the F4 included, also features viscous fluid in the bearing mechanism for motion control purposes. Its design and locking button system allows for quick release and full 360 degree locked rotation for extreme motion conditions. Additionally, the F4 features a quick flip retaining ring for increased stability. This ring also acts as a pick-up point for the optional dust covers that protect your favorite beverage from silt, sludge, mud and bugs. To add a touch of class to your cruiser, the F4 can be laser engraved to your specifications. The F4 is available in both polished or standard machined finishes with aircraft anodizing for the ultimate protection. It measures 5.25" deep, 6.00" tall and 4.625" wide. It sells for about $125.

F3 - The F3 boasts of all the same incredible features but in a more compact size than its older brother. It sells for around $115. The F3 is 4.75" deep, 5.5" tall, and 4.125" wide and will accomdate any beverage up to 3.20" in diameter.

F2 - Crafted of cast aluminum and powder coated with a bullet-proof, UV protected finish, the F2 is on the high end of the working man's budget. The F2 shares the same top of the line components as the F3 and F4 and is sized just between them both. The F2 cannot be laser engraved. Selling for around $45, this is a recommended unit for that Jeep Cherokee or CJ.

F1 - Looking for the best bang for the buck? You can pick this thing up for about $25. It works just as well as the rest and is recommended for those open top vehicles that see a lot of foot traffic.

Above, it may look cluttered in the cockpit, but it's actually quite comfortable in the Cherokee and ultimately functional. Each BCS is mounted in a strategic location and does not get in the way of major operations. To the right, you'll notice the leash that comes equipped with each BCS unit. This serves as additional restraint for your drink of choice, but I've fashioned a bottle opener to it for added functionality. Click Here For Larger Photo

BCS OFF-ROAD.COM EDITION: Webb USA Designs, the manufacturers of Beverage Containment Systems, added a touch of class the our F3, branded it as the official BCS F3 Off-Road.com Edition.

ROCKING & RUNNING: To the left, the F2 is a sound investment. For around 45 bucks, the functionality just can't be beat, especially if you have a vehicle that fiercely attacks the rough, such as your average prerunner or rock crawler. It's a perfect match for our Cherokee. To insert the optional cigarette lighter mount, pull scored surface and push in the prong. Once the prong is inserted, release the scored surface, which locks the BCS securely into position. Seen here, the BCS assumed this position for the duration of our trip to Southern Baja.
